TAVR is the name for a revolutionary procedure that enables patients with aortic stenosis to receive a new heart valve without open heart surgery. The recovery time is much faster than traditional open heart surgery.
TAVR is a minimally invasive technique that is similar to implanting a stent. With TAVR, a stent containing the new valve is fed through a large artery in the leg, up into the heart, and then placed directly in the portion of the heart that contains the natural valve. The natural valve is pressed against the wall of the heart by the stent and the new valve is deployed and begins working instantaneously. Recovery is rapid and patients feel the improvement almost immediately.
